More Book Talks!!

Hello Room 75!

Today was a wonderful day filled with many book talks about many different books that we are reading.  Yesterday I was not able to post a picture of Bruce with his book project, so to recap:
Bruce did his presentation on Tornadoes!

Today we started with listening to Ethan sharing his non-fiction book "One Day Around the World in 24 Hours."  We could tell that Ethan had practiced at home with his family as he shared what he wrote on his poster with confidence.  He got the audience even more interested in what was on the poster when he asked if the kids could try to identify each of the four flags that he drew! Way to go Ethan!

After Ethan, we listened to Lauren share her book project.  She did her project on zebras and their closest relatives, horses.  She used two books, "Little Horses" and "Little Zebras" to help her with this project.  She chose to focus on the many similarities and differences between these animals for her project.  Lauren used actual props to help us recognize what animal she was talking about.   Excellent work!

Ben was next as he shared his project on one of his favorite books, "Percy Jackson 2- Sea of Monsters" By Rick Riordan.  He typed up his project and was proud to present his project from "memory".  He recommends this book to kids who like to read Harry Potter Books or action books.  Way to go Ben!

After lunch Ria shared her project on the book "Ivy and Bean" by Annie Barrows.  She created her very own book out of cardboard! Each page included information on different areas, such as who's who in her book, the setting and a summary.  She also added her own illustrations to for the kids to look at!  When talking about the main characters she made a connection to herself stating "she is a tomboy, kind of like me."  Super work Ria!!

Kareem was very excited to share his book talk on the picture book "Zathura" By Chris Van Allsburg. He did a great job of talking about the different characters that were important in the story.  He was proud to show his illustrations of the robots that he included on the poster! One of the compliments his friends gave him was that she could tell that he had practiced at home! Way to go Kareem!!

Cassie chose to do her book talk on "Ride Fly Guy Ride!"  She looked very proud as she talked about the main characters of her book.  She showed us on her beautiful drawing as she was sharing her summary of the story.  After being asked what her favorite part was that she drew, she answered, "The plane, because I have been on a plane!" Great connection to self Cassie! Way to go!!

Amazing work room 75!! After you present your projects I am putting them up in the hallway so that other students can check them out and see what good books there are for them to read!!

If you can believe it, we also were able to work on other things today!
We had an assembly today that was MC's by two Peace Ambassadors, (One of whom was Marek!).  One of the videos we watched at the assembly starred one of our classmates as well (Mykayla!).  Ask your children to share with you what the assembly was about. (PS the hint is that it was about two things to be especially safe about. Ask them to share with you what they learned from one or both of the videos.
1. what to do if you get to school and the doors on the compound are already locked.
2. how to cross AT the crosswalk safely!)

In math we are continuing with our exploration of large numbers with a specific focus on "Place Value", "Standard Form", "Expanded Form".
