Inclusion Hero!!

Hello room 75 families!

For our class meeting today we talked about what it means to create a sense of belonging and how we can be "Inclusion Heros" in the classroom and on the playground.  We discussed what it meant, and one student said to make sure that everyone had someone to play with on the playground.    We role played different scenarios where students were either playing a game and asked a student to join them or was a student who wanted to join in.  We talked about what feelings a friend might have when asking to join in.  Some kids replied, "happy, excited, or nervous.""Nervous because they might say no."  We also talked about how sometimes you may need to say no for specific reason, but that it is important to explain why so that the student understands.  Students then put themselves into groups of four to create their own scenarios.  We ran out of time before we could share these with the class. (Monday's meeting we will share).  Ask your child who was in their group and what their scenario was.

In the afternoon we spent time discussing IRIS, and thinking about what goals we had either at school or at home.  One student's goal is to read 40 books by the end of the school.  He said he had this goal because he really likes to read and to achieve it he was going to read for at least 20 minutes a day!  Ask your child:
What is your goal?
Why is this your goal?
How are you going to achieve this goal?

Tomorrow we will be working with Gail Bartel to continue our work on Landscapes.

                                                              Important information.

Please be sure to send your child to school with a water bottle so that they can drink water throughout the day, with less visits to the water fountain to do so.

Scholastic book order forms went home. THEY ARE DUE MONDAY, OCTOBER 7TH.

FAMILY PORTRAIT NIGHT FORMS WENT HOME BUT THE TIME WASN'T WRITTEN. IT IS FROM 5-830.

October's reading log did go home today.  If your child doesn't have one, that is because it fell out of their communication folder. (I found some on the floor after they had left.) If this is the case please ask your child to ask for one tomorrow.
